My New York City

New York, New York. “The city that never sleeps.” “Like no place else.” These are just some of the phrases used to describe New York city. Having grown up on the edges of the Pine Barrens of southern New Jersey, I had an idea of what New York city was. This idea was largely shaped by others, by what I had heard, and by what I had seen in films, photographs, and paintings of the city. When, after high school, I moved to New York and spent my four years of college attending the School of Visual Arts, I came to understand New York on my own terms. It became, if only for a short while, my New York city. It was a place that excited me, intrigued me, and a place that I ultimately have come to have mixed opinions about. I frequently find myself roaming around various areas in Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, and The Bronx (even, on rare occasion, Staten Island). It has lost much of it’s Romantic charm on me. However, it is a never ending source of interesting scenes. The images presented here are just some of My New York City.
